Nate’s Narration of Chapter 1 “What is Astronomy?”

Why did God create the Universe? for
Why did God make the moon and the stars? For calendars and for light
What are constellations?
What are compasses for? For knowing the way to North and East
What do birds use for a compass? The stars

Tell me about the stars that move fast across the sky? They are meteors and they are called “shooting stars”
What is the force that pulls on the earth? Gravity
What do the other planets do for the earth? They go around the sun so the earth won’t totter
What is the solar system? All the planets and the sun
What has the most gravity? The sun
What would happen if the earth was heavier? It would be pulled to the sun
What would happen if we were closer to the sun? We would burn
How many planets are in our solar system? 9
Who was Copernicus? He believed the earth moved around the sun
Who was Galileo? He invented telescopes and proved that the planets moved around the sun
What is a telescope? Something you look at to see planets
What is the Hubble Space Telescope?
